On The Road

Date Posted: July 17, 2007:

I have been terrible about keeping up with posting on this site. I felt pretty bad when I saw that I haven't updated since March. I will be perfectly honest, it has been hard to write on here when I have not had anything real good to write about.

That all changed yesterday at 1:09 PM when our new baby girl arrived. Addyson McCall weighed 7 pounds 2 ounces and she is 19 & 1/2 inches long. She and her Mom are both healthy and happy. For those who are parents you know the feeling but for those who are not I can tell you there is nothing else like it. I have won some things and done a few things I was pretty proud of but this is by far the best thing that has ever happened to me. I also have to say I gained a whole new respect for Paige. She was a real trooper from the morning sickness to the birth. I don't think I could have done it.

Needless to say roping will be on the back burner for at least a couple of weeks. I am entered at Dodge City August 2. If they say it is o.k. to take the baby and Paige is able to go I will go, if they can't go I probably won't be there. I have pretty much changed my focus to just getting to enough rodeos and trying to win enough to stay in the top 50. If I was to hit a hot streak I might enter up but as bad as it has been this year I am about ready to start making plans for '08. Alright I have to go change a diaper now. I will seriously try to keep up with this better from now on. I guess I will have something good to talk about now anyway.

Sorry I haven't updated this in a while. I have been staying pretty busy but more so than that I have not had much good rodeo news to report. We did find out that we are having a little girl and from what they can tell she has ten fingers and ten toes and everything looks good. I am a little more scared all the time about the thought of raising a child. Everyone says it will all be fine but I am still a little worried.

The roping has not been going as I had planned at all. I did get a little official money won at Montgomery, Alabama and Mercedes and Goliad, Texas. I am happy to be off of zero but I am ready to get more than a thousand at a time. I honestly just have not roped very good. It seems like every time I make a good run I either break the barrier or the calf gets up. I have still been doing good at the jackpots so I have been paying my way.

I also have to say that my Mannatech business has been doing really well. It has been helping to pay the bills. If you don't know what Mannatech is, it is nutritional supplements that I started taking after my surgery. They have helped alot of people with various health problems and I really enjoy telling people about it because of the great results I have seen.

I am going to Nacogdoches and a couple of jackpots this weekend and Huntsville next week. After Hunstville I will be leaving for the west coast. I was hoping I would have enough won so that I wouldn't have to spend a month in California but it just hasn't worked out like that. I have to get to some rodeos now also because I am going to have to skip some when the baby gets here. I hope I can get twelve or fifteen thousand won in the next month and a half so I can get back in the hunt.

Before I go I would like to remind everyone I will be having my roping again this year. It will be on May 20 at the Lee County Sherriff's Posse arena in Giddings, Tx. The roping will start at 2 pm. We will rope two and a short for $250. I am also going to match Cade Swor. I hope to see everyone there. I will try to keep up with updates a little better on here. It should be easier with a little California down time.

Well I have figured out how to win everywhere that it doesn't count in the PRCA standings. I got run over by one at Jackson. I won Belton but I didn't count it as an official rodeo. Then we went to San Angelo and I had a kicker in the first round and my second calf got up. I was 8.4 and would have placed in the round if she would have stayed down. I had a good day at the jackpot on Sunday. I won the 3rd round and 3rd in the average. I also roped Cade Swor in a match and I roped as good as I have since I started back. I was 56.9 on six head and won the match by about 9 seconds. Cade roped good his horse just wasn't very good. We went back to Jackson on Tuesday and I had a calf that barely got out of a trot and I broke the barrier.

We are hanging out here at home for a few days. We have tied the Houston calves this week and they are really good. We are up at Tucson next Monday and Tuesday. I sure hope that will be where I get on track.

We get to find out what the baby is on the 26th. I hope it makes for an all night drive from the short round at Tucson. It will be a long drive but I am pumped about finding out. I will let ya'll know about Tucson and the little one on the night of the 26th.

Well things have not started off exactly like I had hoped in '07. I was pretty pumped until Odessa, Denver, and Fort Worth did not go the way I had planned. I am not down though because I have started off bad plenty of times. I have not roped very good and I have also had a couple bad breaks. I probably could have gotten through those bad breaks if I was roping a little better.

We have been staying busy since we have been back home. We have been tying all the calves for San Antonio and we have also put two tie down runs and a breakaway run on all of them. They should be a really good set of calves and I expect the roping to be pretty fast. We are up Friday and Saturday. We get to run three calves back to back to back Friday night, Saturday afternoon, and Saturday night. I hope Chad and I can set the pace. Next week we go to Jackson on Wednesday, Belton Thursday night, and San Angelo Friday and Saturday mornings. Then we will probably go to the jackpot at Halletsville on Sunday. Hopefully I can rope my way right out of the mini slump I am in.

Paige is feeling better the last couple weeks. We should be able to find out the sex of the baby within a few weeks.

I finally figured out how to run this website. Sorry it took so long to get going but I am gonna try to update this "on the road" section at least once a week from now on. I hope everyone enjoys being able to keep up with what is going on with Paige and I as well as the guys I will be hauling with.

The first thing I want to share is that we are expecting and our first and probably only child is scheduled to be here in July. I know that is not the best timing for a rodeo family but I am going to rodeo a little harder this winter. I think everything will work out with the rodeoing but as long as we have a healthy child the rodeo year is minor.

I have recovered well from my knee surgery. I would like to thank Dr. Freeman for doing a great job. I also have been able to get some great rehab thanks to Jones and Cowan Physical Therapy here in Giddings. Last but not least I need to thank a couple of good friends who came and introduced me to some nutritional supplements. Terry Kitchens and a Shay Good drove to my house to tell me about some stuff called Mannatech. After a little arguing I agreed to try it and I think it has done some really good things for me and also my family.

I have been tying calves down off a horse since just before Thanksgiving and things are really starting to feel like normal now. I went to Blandford's Thanksgiving roping and won a round and second in the average but I just didn't feel comfortable getting off. I am feeling alot better now and today was the best practice session I have had. I am going to Mike Johnson's roping in Tulsa on December 27.

I am excited about being able to rope again but I am even more excited about the things that are going on in my life. I am looking forward to a great 2007. I hope everyone really enjoys this site. If any of you have questions or comments you can email me at justin@getyourhooey.com. I am not going to promise to answer everything but if you will give me your name and you have a good question I will try to answer as many as possible. You can also feel free to direct questions to me on the USCRA ropers forum at uscra.com.

Thanks for checking out my site.
